All Game Master's are likely given this set of armor to make their avatar unique and easily recognizable to regular players. I troubleshoot issues like this for a living. Solutions are not "out there", and they do not work. Most likely you are not experiencing this issue becuase you've already received that patch.
Try installing fresh - I dare you. Uninformed suggestions like "use a VPN" may have appeared to fix the issue for some people, because the problem is a intermittent - it comes and goes based on what is going on with the patch servers. This is not a client issue.
The first step in fixing it, and making this game better or at least playable is by admiting there is a problem.

The only real question is how many hundreds or thousands of new players got frustrated and gave up without trying dozens and dozens and dozens of times like me.
Only difference for me is I don't have this on Steam. Steam or non-steam makes no difference, it is the same crappy patcher using the same crappy servers. Not a new player but returning and I simply can't get it to patch. I've also tried every trick people mentioned. It only sucks because you have to subscribe to the game to even download it.
If you bought it on Steam make sure you get a refund, and leave them a Steam review with a big "thumbs down" - it's the only way to express your displeasure. Sooner or later they will realize that trying to ignore this is and blaming everyone's ISP is costing them money.
It is something on the client end and how the server is communicating with it. If this was purely a server issue, myself and many others couldn't play; it is a mixture of the two. To toss my credentials out I'm a network engineer and if this was purely a server issue, everyone would be in the same boat.
One idea I've seen work is using another DNS server. A VPN is a bad fix yes, but it points to a connection problem somewhere. Exactly where is hard to say, my guess is a routing issue up the chain. Or perhaps will we never get to play ffxiv ever again? Square, give us a fix!! Edit: I can ping Elemental, which has my server of Tonberry, just fine. This is suggesting to me there is some other issue not related to my ISP.
Every solution posted bar a VPN, I want a fix, not a bandaid I need to re-apply every patch hasn't resolved this. Pinging Same here. Same issue here and I logged a ticket with sqenix helpdesk and got the same responses. So here i thinking, i should do what was advised.
Everything dutifully tried. Nothing works. I even used a VPN from multiple locations. Really hope Sqenix can come up with something. Updated: Pleased to report I found a workaround. Can give it a go if not yet tried Involved changing your DNS settings. The culprit is the file ffxiv Support team, you did nothing whatsoever to fix my issue, but for posterity's sake you might want to identify what about this particular file is breaking the download.
Is it served off a different Akamai server to the others? I nevertheless don't consider this a permanent fix - it is absurd that we should have to go to these measures to fix your patch download process and I've no confidence that this won't just happen again in 5.
Literally 30MB of your MB patch was blocked for me.
