Sometimes, group messages just make more sense than sending individual messages. The way group messaging works most of the time is pretty straightforward: the SMS is converted to MMS, then sent to everyone on the distribution list.
When someone replies, that reply goes to everyone in the group. Like I said, in many circumstances, this method just makes sense. In order for that to happen, you might think you have to send multiple texts. But by tweaking one setting in Google Messenger for Android, you can actually send the same text to as many people as you want and receive replies individually.

I see the group with all the recipients, and they all saw my message but they could not see the other people in the group, and when they replied it only came to me.
Who the hell still uses trash ass blackberry anyway lol? With Go sms pro when I send a group text and I get replies…will everyone in he group text see the replies from everyone? Eric Yes this should work fine if you go to settings, MMS settings then enable group messaging. They can carry on an entire conversation and I will no longer be in it.
How is this fixed? They are both available in the Google Play Store. Will Google messenger allow me to send texts but when people respond to only reply individually… And be able to change the setting to a group text where i would want everyone to respond in one place.
Hi Carol, Yes. My situation is a bit different. I have an android smart phone. At this moment, all that I need is to send a text message to one person, and the same text message to be sent at the same time to a second party as an email. At this time, the message is to be sent to just two parties one party receives it as a text message, and the second party receives it as an email.
Purpose: for your worship house, I need to send a text message one member, but I need to copy the treasurer the same message as an email. One text input field and a send button that initiates two actions: one sending the text from the input field to a specific number, the second sending the text from the input field as the body of an email to a specific address.
Etc etc. Depending on your skill level and how polished the end result needs to be it could take from a few hours to a few days even months to create. Yeah, but Go SMS is a great app and it works if you enable group messaging.
Sending group messages has always been enabled on my android phones. Just compose a new message click the contacts button and click more than one contact. Or you can manually enter them or you can simply reply to a message that sent to you and a group of people. Group messaging has been available for Android for years. Are certain carriers unable to support group text??? Unfortunately cdma mode only works through 3g, so you have to sacrifice with this method.
Reboot the app and see if it works. I am having the opposite problem with my Android. This is so annoying. Many android phones have a limit on the number of people you can text simultaneously.
I have also considered Handcent; but similarly, users are incredibly dissatisfied with the most recent update. Both sites have comments about their most recent App updates that would make it impossible for me to use their App for my multitexts. I arrange wildlife rescues and need to text people simultaneously. My current Samsung phone has a limit of 10 people per multitext; so I have to send the text 10 times; which is time consuming and frustrating.
Any suggestions in the meantime? I am using 8sms as my texting app. I have no problems initially receiving group MMS msgs from iPhones. But I delete conversations on a daily basis. The moral of the story is: MAC does whatever the damn they want, and to stuff with industry standards :p.
With go sms pro on a galaxy s3 andriod 4. When I send to iPhones it always come to them as individual text and same in return. I only get message from the original poster. Would really like to shut up my iPhone freinds but have never been able to make this work….
If i was involved in an existing imessage group and am now using an android, how to i get back into that existing group message?
Thanks for the breakdown. If one of them goes into the group thread and then try to send a picture, they claim it never sends. Is this a typical problem with GroupMe, or could it be something else perhaps my settings?
I tried to go through to see if I needed to enable anything but found nothing Thanks! While creating a group as explained in your article, all the nos listed in the particular contact i. Is it possible to select specific numbers say only mobile no frm the multiple numbers. Also incase the contact has 2 mobile nos can we select both or choose any 1 form the 2. Which app should I use to send out group texts but without everyone seeing the replies, only myself?
I get complaints about people receiving too many texts from unknown numbers. Is there a way to additional participants to an existing group text? I have looked and find nothing. Some groups work fine — others not at all. Kris, when I tried it always worked. Go SMS pro released an update yesterday and this may have caused this issue. I can see a lot of negative ratings for this app. Sometimes this may fix the issue. Let me know if this works or not.
Is it true -if you switched to an android from iPhone. I went to iTunes and dissociated my number with apple. I hear ithe takes awhile before your number is forgotten as an iPhone then your friends I phones will see you as an android and send correctmy formatted messages. Hi Nancy, This was the case few months back. It drew a lot of press news mentioning that Apple intentionally locks down the users to their iMessage so that competing platforms like Android users suffer.
However the good news is Apple responded and provided a way around for this. If you have already switched to Android you can use this page from Apple website to deregister yourself.
Hope this helps. I have a Sony Z3, if anyone knows anything, I would be so thankful. I wish I had this problem. I recently sent a group text thinking it would send to all recipients without them all seeing each other. Hi Feliro, How unfortunate to hear about how some of your friends hate each other. Hopefully one day they can work it out. Were you using an app for group messaging?
Hi There, I have heard great things about these apps, if you want to give them a try. I hope that they are what you are looking for.
Thank you for your comment. Keep coming back for more useful tips! Hi There, I am glad that you liked the information. Tremendous issues here. I am very glad to peer your article. Thanks a lot and I am having a look forward to touch you. Will you kindly drop me a mail? Hi There, I would be glad to help you with anything you need, What do you need more details about? I have a Samsung note 3 Version 5. I have put them in a group and only want to announce upcoming events, etc by a mass text message that will go out to at least at a time.
I would prefer they respond back one at a time. I would also like to find an app that will put their first name in so they think it is not a mass text being sent. I have tried many and all real glitchy and bad.
Hi Richard, I am not familiar with a messaging app that does exactly that, but if I come across one I will definitely let you know. Every weekend i used to pay a visit this site, for the reason that i want enjoyment, for the reason that this this web site conations really pleasant funny stuff too.

Hi, Tell your father thank you for directing you to use and thank you for the compliment. Hope to hear from you soon. Great post. I used to be looking for this particular information for a long time. Thank you and best of luck. I was using Textra, but I have a contacts issue. I used a contacts optimizer and it messed up my groups so much that I could not get textra to send to a group — there would be groups with the same name with partial group lists. I tried go sms pro and when I send a text out to the group, something is preventing the text from going out.
I am a youth minister and have just had a very uncomfortable meeting with volunteers because I have been incommunicado. I use 2 google accounts on my computer and have found it difficult keeping the contacts on one separate from the other and I am not sure which pulls from my phone.
Can you help? Hi Paul, Have you checked to see how your have your messaging app set up in settings? Maybe you can see what contact list it is using. Does each person receiving the group text have to be invited and subscribe? I send out a weekly text message to 70 plus men. Some with android and some with iphones and of course various networks. How much Text? How much Cellular data? Data is separate cards.
I have the lg 41c i use it very little. I had mins to start. My call duration shows i used 10 hours since feb However the min count is now So tracfon says i used 25 hours.
Tech support was no help they want the date the minutes diappeared. Any ideas how to verify on my phone? Can they get a monthly usage? Help thanks. I believe minutes cannot be split up, so if you only made a 40 second call, you will be charged for 1 minute. If you made a 1 minute 10 second call, it would charge 2 minutes. Anyone confirm this? Can I buy just a data card? I have over text and talk minutes, but only 3. What is causing me to use so much data?
If I buy a Tracfone and spend most of my time at my home yes I have wifi , will my calls not deduct from my talk minutes????????????????????? If you mean using your phone at home for a call, you will be charged for the minutes. It is a phone and a computer for text, data, email. Yesterday I traveled One hour and 10 minutes using Google Maps and used 3.
To turn on quickly, put your finger on the top of the screen and pull it down. The screen changes to six boxes and I assume you will see something like it. Tap on Data and GPS etc. Try swiping down from the top of your screen to see if there are buttons to turn on and off GPS, Wifi, Data, change brightness, font, mute. Of course if you have messages etc that will show up first until you deal with them.
I keep data and gps turned off always unless I am in need of maps or needing to sent data. There were a lot of apps already installed on my phone and I use the one that is labeled "messages" If you tap on the center bottom icon on the home screen, a few screens of Icons come up. Find the one labeled Messages and use it. No ads, free.
Hold the icon and move the widget to where you want it to have it readily available. I have not activated yet. It offers triple talk, text, and data. If I use Facebook a lot will this drain my data quickly?
Try and think of your smartphone as a phone and computer. Do your FB work when you have wifi available and it is just a computer, not using min, text, data. See above comments to turn off data, etc If you do FB away from wifi then of course you have to pay for the use of the cell service. Get a My Account app and use the widget to keep track of your usage. Then do 10 minutes of FB while sitting in the park and then update your account app uses text and you will have an idea of how much it is costing you for those 10 minutes.
Then do it again but just post a photo, and check your account again. Now you have a baseline for future reference. If you want to compare, turn off data and just use wifi and repeat the experiment.
Keeping your data turned off unless you are on the road will save you money. Keeping your GPS turned off will keep Google et al from tracking your movements. My lg sunset is not connecting to use my mobile data. I want to use maps for traveling but its only lets me use wifi for that and fb. I have data turned on but is not connected i guess. Did something just change regarding data? I use my phone very rarely and last time I checked, just a month ago, I had over minutes of phone time, over text messages, and more data than I would ever use.
Just yesterday my data stopped working and when I checked my account, it says I have 0 data for browsing. What happened to all my data?
I am never going to use all my phone or texting minutes. It just keeps piling up when I have to renew my service. Too bad you can't exchange minutes for data.
I just sent in a similar question. I was using my mobile data just fine until a couple days ago. I had checked my balance not more than a month ago and had over minutes, over text messages, and more data than I would ever use.
I use my phone very rarely. It is an Android Samsung Galaxy. I use my data services very rarely so I had a lot left. Suddenly my data says I have 0 zero. My phone is usually off so I am thinking something changed and now we have to buy data cards in addition to year service cards. Too bad. I would love to be able to trade my minutes for data. They just keep piling up every time I have to buy another year card to keep my service active.
Also seeing the fact that Tracfone offers the same phone model and that Net Ten and Tracfone are sister companies, would that apply? Think of your smartphone as a phone and a computer. Apps are mostly programs like you have on the computer. Turn off your data and GPS too when you don't actually need them, i. I may be wrong, but I think of Data as a secure form of wifi, when I'm in an airport or other public place and don't have access to secured wifi. When available, make sure wifi is turned on and you are signed in to it.
Then use the cellphone like a computer. You need a browser of course - Firefox, Chrome, etc. The only caution with wifi is using "free wifi" in a public place which isn't security password protected - just like using your laptop at the airport. Unsecured wifi is a disaster waiting to happen to you. Unless someone more knowledgeable corrects me on this, use your Data and turn off wifi in a public place.
If you can use the program on your computer and they have an android app, then why not? This is a guess since you haven't given much info. Can you send an email but not text? Can you use the browser to surf the web, but not search? Type in "weather. If none of those things work, you need to check your Settings. I was wonder the swke exact thing? If im using my home wifi will I loose data on my phone?
Same android phone from HSN. I just took a trip and learned something new about how data and GPS work together if you are following the map in your vehicle. While at home with wifi, I went out to Google Maps and downloaded three area maps to cover the area I was going to travel in. Then I loaded the saved map for the area we were traveling in and later turned on and used the GPS while on the road. Later I realized that Data was turned off and not being used. Thus you can save some Data charges by having the maps already on the phone.
In other words, when you are driving and use the GPS, the Data usage comes from having to download the map to make use of the location blue dot. Does anyone know what the little blue triangle on the blue location dot is supposed to indicate. It did not always sappear to correspond to the compass direction we were traveling in - frequently pointing off to the left or right.
If you insist on leaving it on not recommended if you want to save money you only use Data when you are using it to send or download docs, pics, maps, etc. The problem with leaving it on all the time is that it seems that some apps will defer to data before wifi.
I'm not geek enough to explain it better than that. Again, if you are able to access secure wifi, turn off the data. It will show the balance of all three. I would guess it does because GPS needs a map to locate you on, therefore it needs to download the map, which requires data usage.
If it was someplace you go to often it would be worth saving the map on you phone. If so, using "Tracfone My Account" at home on wifi would be cheaper. Does trackfoned let me know when. I'm low on minuses or does it just. Personally I've never chanced it I hate it when I can't make a call because I've run out of minutes , which is why I followed Peter's advice after reading his excellent review of the "The Tracfone App" which I keep on my home screen and so am always aware of when I need to purchase more.
BTW, I always update it at home on wifi. You should see it after the data-only refills. Hi, author of this article. I ran out of minutes but I know that someone was texting me. Now that I have minutes, the messages aren't coming. Why and how do I fix this? Thank you.
How exactly does the Messenger app from Facebook deduct minutes? When I got my phone a couple of months ago, I downloaded the app and within days my text message minutes were down to 0. So was I charged minutes for every notification that popped up?
I no longer have it loaded on my phone as I am a little gun-shy about losing all my minutes again. With the non-Android phones, you keep your minutes if you buy more airtime within 60 days. You do not have to buy it while you have some left.
I don't know how this works with Android phones; am here to find out more before buying one. Do you need minutes to use it only with Wi-Fi? I have a Tracfone that I just love because it is loud enough for me, and I want to keep my minutes on it. I don't want to have minutes on TWO Tracfones! But my tablet died, and this looks like a good affordable option to replace it, to use with simple apps like Gmail and eBay - when I am in a Wi-Fi hot spot.
Can I do that? If I have triple min phone, text, data 1 year plan If I have 1 year plan triple ph,text, data Nope, and nope. As long as you sign up for more contract DAYS, you don't lose anything. My wife has thousands of minutes on her phone because she only turns it on for emergencies but keeps renewing her contract each year.
Just switched from LG to an iPhone5s. I have cell services off except for voice and using my wifi home. Why am I getting charged for text messages? Thanks in advance for input! I just purchased a MB data-only card, and tried to add it as airtime.
It didn't take. How do I add only data to my Android? I got a text that says Service Msg from saying something about getting a notification for updating my phone. Can I keep them from sending them if they do? From the times I've done this, I saw no deductions from my minutes or data. But you must "enable" data or mobile data on your phone for it to work which is not too much trouble since I tend to have data and wi-fi mostly disabled when not in use anyway.
After checking your balances, you then can choose to disable it again.
